Commerz Real acquires Beckum wind farm from Energiekontor

• 9.0 megawatts installed capacity
• Network connection by the end of October 2020
• Output sufficient for about 7,000 households

Commerz Real has purchased the wind energy farm “Beckum” close to the town of the same name in the Münsterland region (North Rhine-Westphalia). The seller of the wind farm, which is due for completion soon, is Energiekontor AG, a developer and operator of wind farms and solar plants domiciled in Bremen. “The sale process for the wind farm was conducted in a professional and cooperative manner,” comments Peter Szabo, the chief executive officer of Energiekontor AG.

The project is what is known as “repowering”, the renewal of a power plant. Originally six wind turbines with an installed capacity of 5.2 megawatts were located on the site near Beckum. These were dismantled in 2019 and will be replaced by two much more powerful wind turbines each with an installed capacity of 4.5 megawatts which will be connected to the national grid by the end of October 2020. It is estimated that 24 million kilowatt hours of electricity will be generated each year, enough to cover the needs of more than 7,000 average German households.

“Repowering and the more efficient use of wind power locations will gain in importance in the future so as to meet climate targets,” explains Jan-Peter Müller, Head of Infrastructure Investments at Commerz Real. “This will result in attractive investment opportunities for both us and our investors.”
